Got questions about our handcrafted tie-dye, shipping, or Valley Vibe in general? You're in the right place! We've compiled a list of frequently asked questions to help you out. If you can't find the answer you're looking for, please don't hesitate to contact us.
We want your Valley Vibe experience to be as smooth and enjoyable as possible. Check out these FAQs to learn more about our products, processes, and policies.
What is tie-dye, and why does every piece look different?
Tie-dye is a resist-dyeing process where fabric is folded, twisted, bound, or clamped to “resist” dye in certain areas. Because each fold and dye application is done by hand, every garment is naturally one-of-a-kind.
Are your garments truly handmade?
Yes. Every Valley Vibe piece is hand-dyed individually by Chris in the Sunshine Coast hinterland. We do not use automated printing or mass-production dye methods.
What dyes do you use? Are they safe?
We use high-quality, non-toxic dyes imported from the United States. They are selected for vibrancy, longevity, and consistent performance.
Will the colours fade after washing?
Tie-dye will soften slightly over time, like any dyed garment, but we use quality dyes and proper curing/rinsing processes to maximise colourfastness. Following the care instructions will help your piece stay vivid longer.
How do I wash and care for my tie-dye clothing?
Wash cold, gentle cycle
Wash with like colours
Turn inside out to protect the surface
Avoid harsh bleach and strong stain removers
Line dry where possible (or tumble dry low if needed)
Will my item bleed dye onto other clothes?
New tie-dye can occasionally release a trace of colour in early washes. We thoroughly rinse and wash pieces before sale, but we still recommend washing separately the first one or two washes, just to be safe.
What fabrics do you dye best?
Natural fibres (especially cotton) typically take dye most vibrantly and hold colour best. If we offer blends, they may dye with a slightly different effect, which is part of the charm.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes—depending on workload and the type of request. Custom dye work can range from choosing a colour palette to a specific pattern style. Keep in mind: tie-dye is bespoke, so exact replication isn’t possible, but we can aim for a similar “vibe.”
Can I request specific colours or avoid certain colours?
Absolutely. If you have preferences (e.g., “ocean tones” or “no yellow”), we can usually accommodate them in customs and limited drops.
Can you recreate a design I saw on your website or socials?
We can recreate the style and colour direction, but not an identical copy. The process is hand-led and inherently variable—your piece will be unique.
Where are you located? Do you have a physical store?
Valley Vibe is made in a rural location in the Sunshine Coast hinterland. Availability of in-person pickup, markets, or pop-ups can vary—check our latest updates for current options.
How do you size your clothing?
We use standard sizing, but fits can vary by garment style (tee vs hoodie). We recommend checking the size guide on each product page. If you’re between sizes, consider whether you prefer a fitted or relaxed look. Remember that fabrics may shrink during the making process by up to 10%
What if I’m buying a gift and I’m unsure about sizing?
If available, gift cards are the simplest option. Otherwise, a relaxed-fit tee or hoodie is usually a safe choice.
Do you restock the same designs?
Some colourways or pattern styles return, but exact pieces do not. Restocks typically follow a theme rather than duplicating individual garments.
How long will my order take to ship?
Ready-made items ship faster; custom pieces take longer because they’re dyed to order and need time for dye-setting, rinsing, and drying. Your checkout or order confirmation should indicate current processing times.
Do you ship Australia-wide / internationally?
Australia-wide shipping is typically available. International shipping may be offered depending on current logistics—check checkout options or contact us.
What’s your returns/exchanges policy?
Because each item is unique, policies can differ for ready-made vs custom pieces. Generally, we’ll help with exchanges for sizing where possible, but custom orders may have limitations.
How sustainable is tie-dye, and what do you do to minimise waste?
Tie-dye can be relatively low-waste compared to mass printing, especially when done in small batches. We focus on small-run production, quality garments, and processes designed to minimise unnecessary dye and water use where feasible.
